The Start of Edge
Edge Venture Ministries, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit ministry established under Ecclesiastical law supported by Christian men of integrity who love the Lord Jesus Christ, seeking to serve Him humbly. As stated in our original By-Laws, Edge Venture was formed “to make a men’s experiential weekend available to men.” The mission of Edge Venture, as stated in our original By-Laws, is “to help men discover who they are in Christ through their affirmation and brokenness towards healing. The men who serve in this ministry do so on a volunteer, unpaid basis to support Edge Venture’s foundational mission and purpose. Edge Venture accomplishes its mission by carrying out experiential weekends designed to help men identify and actively working to eliminate those things that are keeping them from being the men of God they are intended to be. This ministry is a brotherhood of believers, not a professional counseling service. Our leaders and mentors are not licensed professionals but men who have walked through life’s challenges and are here to offer prayer, guidance, and fellowship grounded in Scripture.

After each weekend, men are invited to participate in post-weekend virtual meetings to continue the Sequoia connection fostered during the weekend experience. Thereafter, men are invited to participate in weekly ongoing men’s groups established in various locations across the Edge Venture geographic footprint. Edge Venture believes that as this initial work in each man’s life is started, participating men can best be served by active membership in the local church where the word of God is preached and the presence of the Holy Spirit is active for consistent Christian growth. While Edge Venture may, from time to time, offer adjunct weekend events, its primary focus is on men’s experiential weekends. It is every man’s responsibility to carry on their journey, however that looks for each man. Edge Venture is led by a board of 5 men with diverse perspectives who are Biblically qualified and trained (as referenced in the books of Titus and 1 Timothy). These voting board members are supported by several non-voting board members that provide additional support, encouragement and wisdom to the ministry. The non-voting board positions intend to eventually become full voting board members as the term-limits of existing voting board members mature. Each board member is interviewed prior to being voted on by the board to ensure each candidate meets the qualifications of Christian leadership as written in the book of Titus. Each elected board position has defined term limits varying from 3-4 years depending on the role. Each board member is required to sign a statement of ethics annually attesting to the following:

As a board member of Edge Venture Ministries, I agree to the following:
-
I will follow through on my commitments.
-
I will be open and honest when communicating.
-
I will hold myself accountable and my shortcomings.
-
I will always represent the Lord and this ministry to the best of my ability.
-
I will lead with integrity, compassion, and humility toward others.
-
I will strive for respectful and open communication.
-
I will act ethically with transparency in all business dealings.
-
I will do what is best for the ministry.
The signing of this attestation annually is mandatory. Those unwilling to sign and
uphold this attestation are subject to removal from the board (as determined by a
process of due diligence and subsequent vote).
The By-Laws of Edge Venture provide governance of offices, including due process in
handling board member indiscretions, conflicts, and any subsequent disciplinary
measures. Any such action must be supported by a majority vote of the board before
action. The Edge Venture board recognizes that Christian leaders are held to a higher
standard morally and ethically as compared to the world. Any actions taken by a
majority vote of the board is done to uphold the spiritual well-being of the ministry and to
support the principles of Christian fellowship, ensuring a healthy, accountable, and
spiritually enriching environment for all members in good standing. In the past, on very
rare occasions, we have had to discipline men in Edge leadership who have struggled
with issues surrounding integrity, etc. In those circumstances, the board dealt with these
men according to the language within our bylaws. These situations are never easy, yet the
board recognizes the significance of the board maintaining a position of purity and
holiness before the Lord. This is why our current by-laws have been improved to
include a more clearly defined due process in handling board member discipline, to
include attempts for reconciliation when warranted.
Board meetings are held at least monthly, with minutes maintained that are available
for review by any active member in good standing. Board meeting minutes include a
Treasurer’s report, Old Business and New Business topics. The board operates using
Robert’s Rules of Order require any board action to be raised as a motion, a second
with a vote concluding discussion. All motions require a majority vote of the voting
board members to carry. This process ensures proper governance of board actions and
records.
